Melting Glass

For YEARS I've wanted to melt glass. Finally, it's happened - I got a small kiln for my birthday.

One second hand German lab kiln from Ebay - £285

One box of warm glass supplies, tools and safety equipment - £215

One 49 year old witch hopping around, cackling with excitement - PRICELESS!

There's some things that money can't buy ... and for the rest ...

I haven't got the first clue as to what I'm doing, but I bought a book and thought, let's just get started. Why not?

And here's my first ever attempt at melting glass:

As you can see, SOME thing has happened here - LOL.

Clearly, the temperature wasn't hot enough to reduce the aromatherapy oil bottle (which had previously contained Angelica!) to a puddle; but it was definitely hot enough to shatter one of the test pieces into dust!

I do love the bottle though, my very first attempt at melting glass EVER, and you can still screw a top on it.

Developing art ...!

My second attempt involved fusing some dichroics - and look what happened:

Dichroic Alien - August 24, 2008

Yay! It's a dichroic alien! A bit rough round the edges, but what good fun is this!

And something else is cooking as we speak ... :-)
