The Primal Artist

I have a new webside, a SpaceNode indeed, which is all about my take on art - my vision for art, art theory, essays on art and The Primal Artist.

If you are a human being, it might be of interest to you, too.

Turtle 2 Turtle

Was the stress turtle doctored?

This question has been asked many times on the web.

I can answer it congruently - yes it was, and I was the doctor.

However, it wasn't doctored in the way that people think it was.

Here is the original anti-stress turtle photograph, taken by Alex Kent in Thailand:

And here's the "doctored" stress turtle for the StressFish article:

Zaubervogel - Magic Bird

Zaubervogel (Magic Bird) Original Painting Sept. 2009

Can you paint in German? Certainly! From the title to the "Art Solutions" set up, this is a German painting, and very interesting it was too. Made the vector to go with it whilst I was there, if ever I want this design on a cofeecup or a Tshirt, it will save a lot of time.

Mirrorman Symbol Hybrid Rant

Yes ... that's two photos of the same picture. I could take 'em all day and every one would look different, and none of them look like the original!

MirrorMan Symbol Hybrid - Photo 1

MirrorMan Symbol Hybrid - Photo 2

I am always complaining that the photographs of the symbol paintings do NOT do them any kind of justice and you really cannot know what they're like "face to face" from the web pics.

This has annoyed me so much I've stopped photographing the symbol paintings I do and just have the odd symbol hybrid about the virtual place, but that's not a true record of my paintings either.

The two pics above are a typical example of my failure to correctly photograph a symbol painting, in this case the MirrorMan symbol hybrid, in any way, shape or form that would give at least an idea of what that painting actually looks AND FEELS like when you stand in front of it.

With the symbol paintings, they shimmer and shine with golds and silvers, pearlescent and opalised paints, and extremely vibrant and bright colours. They shift and change when you move, when the clouds move across the sky, when the light changes or your perspective. The lines and shapes themselves seem to move by themselves. They're stunning, and just won't allow themselves to be photographed by me!

WAIL!

LOL. I have been taking photographs long enough now to have some idea what works, and what doesn't, what will show up and what won't, so it seems to me, there's an evil aspect at work which is actively sabotaging taking photographs of the paintings so that I'll be forced into an actual, hard, non-virtual exhibition one of these days ...

Who knows.

But hey - thanks for listening to me rant on about it! It does make you feel better to have a good old bitch and moan once in a while. It's an energy release don't you know!

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse 2009 Vector

In 2006, I made a special program designed to help activate the psychic circuitry, The Appollonius Quartet.

The second quarter of the four, which together produce more than the sum of their parts, is called "The Lighthouse". And the Lighthouse is such an amazing metaphor.

I painted a symbol hybrid at that time, and today it has occurred to me to turn the original painting into a vector drawing because then you can do more things with it.

The picture above is the new vector image, the one below the original painting in acrylics on board from 2006.

Strange Green Guy 2003

Found this today ...
The words read:

He wasn't quite himself today,
he thought, and it wasn't just
his colouring that was off.

He just didn't remember himself
to have that many arms
no matter how hard he tried
or how often he counted.

Tree Of Life

Tree Of Life, Acrylics on Canvas

On the 23rd August, 2009 is my 50th birthday.

This is always a good time to be reflecting on one's life and works, and this Art Solutions painting depicts the wandering ways of my time.

The background is numerous layers of iridescent gold which doesn't translate well into a jpg but I have seen the original and can attest to the fact that it is quite stunning.

Happy Birthday!
